Welcome to Ms. Hawkey's Classroom Blog!
It was so great meeting all of the parents and students at back to school night! I enjoyed talking with everyone and I can already tell that it is going to be a fantastic school year. Our first full week was amazing! I was very impressed with how well the students caught on to all of the procedures and routines. For those of you that came to Meet the Teacher night, you saw that our classroom did not look like your traditional classroom. Couches, bean bag chairs, high top tables, rocker chairs, and yoga balls are some of the unique seating options that you saw. This type of classroom is called a flexible seating classroom and it is designed to help students feel comfortable learning at their best from the spot in the room that works best for them. As you can imagine, I was a bit apprehensive about the implementation of this seating, but I am happy to say that it has been a great experience so far.
I hope that you come back to this blog often to check out the happenings in our classroom. The students, with their undercover code names, will actually be doing most of the blogging. Also, you will get to see pictures of our learning and daily activities.
Thanks for stopping by to check out our blog! Now, let's hear about last week from our student bloggers:
"In the classroom we have flexible seating. We have a couch, rockers, bouncy balls, comfy chairs, pillows, benches, tall tables, toadstools, ect. In the morning we get to pick our seating. We have 26 students in our class, so we have a lot of seats for all of us. We also have jobs. Everyone has a job. In writing we read a book called "If you were a Writer." We got our writer's notebooks ready and we did something called an I List and a Heart Map."

"We did something called Math Workshop. It was hard. We worked on a big problem, did a gallery walk, and congress where we gave feedback. We also did multiplication problems in our math books. They were easy."
